We sailed the ocean blue, and saucy ship (SEMusic) was definitely a beauty!

That's two concerts down for me now as the new director of SEMusic. And this one was definitely different for me. We new that the lovely Auntie Ann, our accompanist, was not going to be available for the concert, so I had agreed to play and have my Deputy Director, Sophie, conduct. However, when we discovered that Sophie couldn't make it either, I was suddenly playing and conducting at the same time. Oh, and I also compered the concert!
The choir, however, when they heard this news, took it completely in their stride, and to be fair and unbiased, they sounded brilliant.
Our setting was the beautiful church of Our Lady, Star of the Sea. A tardis of a church, and so cavernous on the inside that your voice just leaves you as soon as you sound a note, it can be quite daunting to sing in their. The choir, in their usual we-can-do-anything type of way, rose to the challenge, and even with depleted numbers sand their hearts out as we sailed, dived, docked, unloaded and sank our way through our spring repertoire.
A selection of sea shanties and songs about the sea, may not be everyone's cup of tea, but when SEMusic do it, everyone listens! And boy, did they! A full church of people were enraptured by the programme and thoroughly enjoyed it.
Everyone who spoke to me afterwards was bursting with praise for the choir and the sound that they had made. I couldn't be more proud of the choir for what they have achieved so far this season, and we've still got one concert to go!
